2016 US imports of seafood statistics

According to Intrafish's February 14 report: US NMFS data show that in 2016, US imports of seafood were close to 2.8 million tons, valued at $19.9 billion, up 3.7% and 3.1% respectively. In 2015, the import volume was 2.7 million tons, valued at 19.2 billion US dollars.


- The import volume of squid was 353,089 tons, valued at 3.2 billion US dollars, up 2.5% and 18.4% year on year respectively;

- The import volume of shrimps was 605,064 tons, valued at 5.7 billion US dollars, up 3.1% and 4.7% respectively over the same period of last year;

- Imports of benthic imports amounted to 833,760 tons, valued at $874.5 million, an increase of 4.5% and 4.9% respectively over the same period of last year;

- The import volume of crabs was 112,840 tons, valued at 1.6 billion US dollars, up 4.5% and 3.2% respectively over the same period of last year;

- The import volume of lobsters was 61,367 tons, valued at US$1.3 billion, up 6.6% and 5.4% year-on-year respectively.
