Shanghai Tongchuan Road Aquatic Market, which is about to disappear

2016-10-21

On October 31, the Tongchuan Road Aquatic Market, the largest aquatic seafood market in the downtown area, has been relocated to Taopu Town, which is also in the Putuo District. The original site area will be part of the city's sub-center, planning to build commercial finance, business office, commercial and residential mix, cultural entertainment and public green space.

The Tongchuan Road Aquatic Products Market is located at the intersection of Tongchuan Road and Caoyang Road in Putuo District, Shanghai. It is close to the Shanghai West Railway Station in the north and the Wuning Road entrance in the south. The market was built in October 1996 by the New Changzheng Group Jinyuan Industrial Co., Ltd., which was built on a piece of farmland. It covers an area of 26,000 square meters, has 800 booths and nearly 100 facade shops, and has more than 400 business households. It is one of the main distribution centers for medium and high-end seafood products in Shanghai, and is also the largest wholesale market for hairy crabs in Shanghai.

Due to traffic congestion, poor environmental pollution and hidden dangers caused by the Tongchuan Road aquatic product market, it also seriously affected the urban appearance and urban operation safety. In order to speed up the new “one-axis and two-wing” pattern led by Taopu, Putuo District plans to complete the rectification, adjustment and closure of the Tongchuan Road aquatic product market during the year.
