Zhoushan hairtail (also known as Zhoushan ribbonfish) is one of the first batch of seafood products in China to receive the Geographical Indication (GI) certification, and it stands as one of the four major economic fish species of the Zhoushan Fishing Ground.

It is easily distinguished by its black eyes and scales that detach easily. The fish features a slender body with delicate bones and a smooth back ridge free of protruding spines, resulting in exceptionally tender meat.

Nutritionally, it is rich in protein and contains DHA, a unique nutrient not typically found in hairtail from other fishing grounds. It is also known for its impressive flexibility; when held in the middle, the fresh fish hangs down to form a perfect inverted "U" shape.

Fresh Zhoushan hairtail is ideal for steaming, offering a savory taste without any fishy odor. Unlike hairtail from other regions, it lacks large, coarse bone fragments, providing a superior dining experience. This premium quality has made it highly popular both domestically and internationally.
